Sightings and news during August

This August has been unseasonably warm (70's) and VERY dry. There are a number of active fires in the State, the biggest and closest one to us is called the Swan Lake Fire and has burned over 150,000 acres. There are about 600 firefighters working the fire, it has and continues to close the Sterling Hwy. at times. Some of the pictures included are results of the fire. You can tell fall is coming as the aspen and birch are turning their fall gold color and the wild cranberries are ripe and ready for picking. We are also part owners of an inflatable boat that can be used on the Kenai River and maybe even Halibut fishing. Les & Nancy from Merrill, WI left earlier this month and are now back in Wisconsin and our Chetek friends, Jim & Donna are planning to pull out this morning (29th). We are still at St. Theresa near Soldotna and plan to pull out Tuesday the 3rd and go back to Seward for a few days and try our luck at Silver fishing. Then it will be off to Wasilla to get the truck serviced before heading down to Valdez for a short visit before heading out and back to Wisconsin. Tomorrow (30th) we may head south to Homer for a sight seeing and exploring trip. Otherwise all is going well here, thanks for looking.
