05-30-2012

Spending another night in Tok at the same camground as last night, we spent the day catching up on phone calls, laundry and washed the trailer and truck (They really needed it).  Had grilled chicken, potato salad and beets for supper.  Temps today got to 60's with lots of sun.

WE ARE IN ALASKA!!!!

Today (05/29) we set foot back onto US soil around 4:15pm Alaska time, which is 3 hours behind central time.  We continued 100+ miles west to the small town of Tok, pronounced like "poke", where we are all set on our campsite for at least 1 night and maybe 2.  Currently there are only 2 other rigs in this campground. Last night we stayed at a camground just east of Whitehorse, Yukon.  We have attached a picture of a moose that walked through our campground 2 nights ago and then some woodland bison and caribou we drove past along the road.

I think we have seen 6 bears now, 3-4 moose, 20+ bison, 6+ caribou, rock sheep, numerous deer, a couple porcupines and lots of ducks, geese and swans.

Since we left The Farm we have logged 3432 miles, we have been averaging 10-12mpg, which is much better than the 8-9 we were getting bucking the winds in ND and MT  Rosalie can say she is a seasoned BIG RIG driver as she has logged 3-4 hours driving.  She can sleep when I drive, but I just can't relax enough when she is driving to get any shut-eye, well that and I don't want to miss any scenery.  The mountains and other scenery the last 2 days has been magnificent.  Several big lakes we passed the last 2 days are still frozen and there is still snow in shaded areas and ravines.

Picture of moose than swan across the small pond and walked about 30 yards from our campsite.  Photos of campsite were posted a couple days ago.

No internet night before last and last night didn't try logging on.  We stayed at a Rotary  Campground in Fort St. John last night, very nice and now getting ready to continue North To Alaska on the ALCAN Hwy.  Maybe more pictures tonight, have some they are just not down-loaded yet.

Made it in to Alberta Canada today, it only took an hour to go through customs.  They wanted to search our trailer for any undeclared firearms.  The guy doing the search was pretty nice and only checked obvious places  and talked more than searched.

Rain and 37-42 today.

Made it to Fort Macleod, AB and are staying at Daisy May Campground.  Decided to pull in early since the last couple of nights have been later.  We are set up on the banks of the "Oldman River"

Perfect End To A Great Day

Arrived at Evergreen RV Campground near Havre Montana 6:45pm local time, shortly after we got set up rain started.  After a few minutes of a nice shower the sun came out and afforded us this shot.  One of the brightest rainbows I have ever seen and a double at one point.

We did 400+ miles today bucking the wind most of the day.  Tomorrow we travel into Canada.  We have logged over 1000 miles so far, which should be 1/3 of the trip total.

Tuesday 05/22/2012

Sorry no pictures today.  Somehow we slept in until 7:30a.m. this morning and after getting everything done finally got on the road around 11:30.  Drove all day and got to Dickinson, ND 8:30pm their time 9:30 Central time.  Now just relaxing a bit after setting up the trailer and then off to bed.  Hopefully we can get an earlier start tomorrow.  We plan to head north after we get into Montana and pick up Hwy 2 and take that west to I-15 where we will head north.

Truck continued to impress me today, with pulling power and ease of trailer handling, however we did use more fuel as we were getting pushed from the side with a southeast wind most of the day until this afternoon when it switched to more west/southwest so we were almost bucking it head on.  Still plenty of power.......

Stay tuned for more
