The Last Supper

Tonight we were treated to a wonderful supper of Salmon, Crab, Shrimp, Brussels Sprouts and Mushroom Alfredo made by Nancy and a show piece dessert made by Edna.  It was a bittersweet gathering as we say goodbye to our new friends Les & Nancy who plan to pull out tomorrow morning to continue their trip.  It won't be goodbye forever as Les and Nancy live in Merrill, WI and plan to come back to AK next year.

After the guys got back from fishing the ladies went to Ninilchik and had lunch at Roscoe's and ice cream at the general store, they then went beach combing on the Ninilchik beach.

The Red Salmon run in the Kenai River has started and the last couple of days have yielded limits for us.  The weather has been great and evwn a bit warm with temperatures reaching the 70's.

Another Birthday Party

Today we celebrated Kay Shook's birthday at Donna & Jim Meacham's house.  Despite the cool, breezy and rainy weather we had a great "summer cookout" meal with burgers, reindeer sausages and all the fixings.  After eating we all moved indoors for cake, ice cream and card reading.  Fun was had by all.  We are truly blessed with so many friends.

"Three Kenai Reds"

Fished the Kenai River for 5 hours this morning and finally caught a limit of Reds, 2 smaller ones and one bigger one.  No hits for 2 1/2 hours then the action picked up.

Oh Bull!

While in the trailer this morning this guy walked next to the rig 20' away, out across the parking lot and past the owners house before moving out of sight.  He walked at a normal pace (for a moose), but didn't give us much opportunity for a picture.

Dog Days Of Summer

We took the boys to the water park (Scout Lake) the other day for some wet fun.

July 11th - Ken's Birthday

Another beautiful day enjoying Alaska; perfect weather, good food, great friends and fun times.  We scheduled a showing for one of the houses we liked, but our inspection revealed a leaky roof and mold/mildew problem.  We drove by some other possibilities, but nothing really excited us.  During our travels we saw a cow and calf moose.

At suppertime we met some friends at Magpye's Pizzeria in Sterling for some delicious pizza and visiting.  We then went to Jim and Donna's place for double chocolate birthday cake and ice cream while sitting around the fire visiting.

Mt Redoubt

Our first glimpse of Mt Redoubt since moving over here a week ago Monday.  I took this looking west on East Poppy Lane on our way fishing this morning, Redoubt is about 57 miles away.  No fish this morning, but I did land a Red yesterday at Moose Meadows and lost two others.

Check out some properties and see this moose and stop and put fuel in the truck, note: diesel is cheaper than gas.

On The Road Again - Fish On - Happy Birthday

Good morning from Soldotna Alaska, it is 51 and partly sunny this morning.

This past Monday we hooked up and moved from our place in Seward to St. Theresa Lakeside Resort and Lodge between Soldotna and Sterling.

A picture of the lodge from last fall

We are in the same spot this year & Bill & Edna are next to us
It was an uneventful trip for us and our friends Bill and Edna.  After getting set up we looked at a couple of properties and then went for supper at Magpye's Pizzeria in Sterling.  Bill & I fished the Kasilof River 2 1/2 hours on Wednesday for Reds with no luck.  Yesterday 4 of us went to the Russian River and all caught fish,  but only 2 were legally hooked.

We pay to ride this ferry across the Kenai River, it is propelled by the current.

Bill, left fishing with others along the River, this is considered "combat fishing"

Bill with a foul hooked Red that had to be released, this fish already swam 70 miles from the ocean to get here.

After a day of fishing we came home for a couple of hours and then went in to Acapulco's Mexican Restaurant,(opened a week ago) in Soldotna with our friends to celebrate Rosalie's birthday.  The place was busy, the service a bit slow and the food excellent. After supper everyone came back to St Theresa for Rhubarb Sprinkle Cake Rosalie made earlier in the day from fresh cut Rhubarb.

We have been seeing a few moose on our travels, but no good photo ops.  We also met with a realtor and have a list of properties we will be checking out over the next couple of weeks.
